Madagascar cocoa is one of the most famous in the world, renowned for being extremely rare and grown on small farms. ICAM sources the best cocoa in the Sambirano region in the north west of the island which abounds with plant species. This variety of cocoa, which is as unique as the area where it grows, is considered one of the best in the world. Historically, it is one of the varieties defined in the “Fine of Flavour” list by the International Cocoa Organization (I.C.C.O.).
This area is characterised by the unexpected number of varieties. The Trinitario, Criollo and Forastero cocoa plants all grow here. Madagascar is a land that is also famous for other important crops: the well-known “Madagascar vanilla”, ylang-ylang, coffee, pepper and pink pepper.
