A new project, which only after 4 years has given this cocoa a great recognition: from national and traditional consumption to the international market, also relying on important collaborations such as institutions and ONG (federal program “Sembrando Vida”, ONG International Conservation).
The preservation of the rainforest and support for indigenous communities are the cornerstones of this path of environmental and social sustainability.
150 producers in the Sierra de Tabasco and northern Chiapas have established Community nurseries for cocoa and for the diversification using high-quality fruit and wooden species.
Agroforestry training is a key point for the management of cocoa plantations in respect of forests: fertilization, pest and disease control, pruning and shade management, reforestation.
With a direct supply chain process, Icam recognizes the full value to the work of agroforestry producers.
